Sony Ericssons Neue: S500i und T650i offiziell vorgestellt

Sony Ericsson hat zwei weitere Geräte offiziell vorgestellt. Dabei handelt es sich um die beiden Design-Handys T650i und S500i, das eine Barren aus Edelstahl und Mineralglas, das andere ein Slider in zwei auffälligen Farben und bunten Themes. Verkaufsstart für beide ist das dritte Quartal 2007.

Palm Treo 755p offiziell vorgestellt

Nach dem Ausflug in die Windows-Welt scheint Palm jetzt dauerhaft zu seinen Wurzeln zurückgekehrt zu sein und bringt mit dem Treo 755p wieder ein Smartphone mit PalmOS auf den Markt. Innovationen findet man nicht, lediglich einige Verbesserungen wurden im Detail vorgenommen.

WHERE is What You Need

Need to find local weather, driving directions or a ski report? Where do you look? How about on your cellphone with WHERE GPS widgets? Developed by uLocate Communications and currently available for handsets on the Sprint/Nextel network, WHERE GPS widgets can be managed from a drag-and-drop Web interface. Subscription to the widgets costs around $3 a month, and range from weather information providers to locators for bars and restaurants.Currently available widgets include those for directions, ski report, finders for earthquakes, golf courses and winerys with more on the way. You can also use the WHERE widget location notes to write about places you’ve been.

Dapper

Dapper is a useful service that allows you to grab and use any web based content from a website. Dapper provides a simple interface that allows you to grab specific parts of a site, add some options to it, and turn it into exportable data for your own projects. You can look at it as building an API for any website. I could, for example, make a custom “Dapp” that grabs Quotes from my stocks into my netvibes-website. Combine this with Yahoo Pipes and then we’ll really have something special.

Pipes - Widgets and Web Services

Pipes, Yahoo’s latest service, is an interactive feed aggregator and manipulator. Sounds confusing, doesn’t it? Basically, Pipes allows you to grab feeds from services like Youtube, Flickr, and eBay and mash them up with in an interface allowing for the sorting, joining, formatting and querying of the aggregated data. Once you’re done mixing and mashing, you can create a custom feed that accepts user input and re-use on your sites. Really,

Ericsson: Traffic to grow ten fold in 5 years

Ericsson’s CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg experssed confidence in continued growth with good profitability at Capital Markets Day in Stockholm.

“Our way of communicating is changing rapidly with the rollout of mobile and fixed high-speed broadband”, said Svanberg.

“As a result, we expect traffic in fixed as well as mobile networks to grow tenfold by 2012. With high-speed broadband, we will see multimedia to start a new era in telecom.”

Svanberg continued by emphasizing that this new era sets additional demands on both operators and vendors; for vendors, consumer understanding will become even more critical and IP competence will be crucial as it paves the way for triple play and multimedia services. Convergence also increases network complexity, setting systems integration skills in focus. In this environment, telecom grade will remain a critical competence.

Svanberg said: “Key success factors for vendors will be technology leadership in combination with global presence and operational excellence. Our firm intention is to continue to outperform competition, gaining growth and market share in this exciting market environment.”

Ericsson had the honor to welcome as speakers at the capital markets day Sol Trujillo, CEO of Telstra, Eric Cooney, President and CEO of Tandberg Television, and Frank Meywerk, Executive Vice President, Radio Access Network Planning and Deployment, T-Mobile.

Speakers from Sony Ericsson were Miles Flint, President, Anders Runevad, Executive Vice President, head of sales and Steve Walker, Vice President, head of product marketing.

Other featured Ericsson speakers at the capital markets day included Karl-Henrik Sundström, Chief Financial Officer; Kurt Jofs, Executive Vice President, head of business unit Network; Hans Vestberg, Executive Vice President, head of business unit Global Services and Jan Wäreby, Senior Vice President, head of business unit Multimedia.
